Nokia 6300 battery hack (Swap BL-4C with BL-5C)

.: I had one second-hand Nokia 6300 before it was stolen while I was helping a customer. Actually it was pretty well hidden because I was charging it, but then the thief got pretty clever and I got distracted and he's able to run away with my phone. Ouch.. :-(

Nokia 6300 with black housing cover.
So I got another one from a local bidding website and after installing the new phone updates (software updates remove the phone security code because the seller didn't know the code either, aiya), plus trying and testing a few Nokia 6300 games, the original battery run out pretty fast. It's all about pretty things inside here, and I wonder why... :-?

Before this I read somewhere on the internet where someone has already do the battery hack before, which he use Nokia BL-5C instead of the original BL-4C in his 6300. And today the link is gone from my Firefox bookmark lists, hurmmm..

Why must BL-5C?
First, the current BL-4C power is about 890 mAh which is insufficient for daily SMSses and calls done with 6300 (and for playing games and listening to mp3s too). So, the other option is to look for "similar sized" battery with more power, in this case, it's the Nokia BL-5C.

Compact and slim Li-on BL-5C battery comes with 1020 mAh of power, an additional of 130 mAh than the original BL-4C. Such an extra power is pretty helpful, because some user claim it can last about 3 days of usage, unlike the my current BL-4C which able to lasts about 1 day only. The problem is, BL-5C is slightly thicker than BL-4C.

You may asks why don't we use the 1150 mAh BL-6C? Oops, that battery is way too thick to carry this incoming hack, but you can give it a try if you want to. As a warning, doing so may shorten the battery life, even shorter than BL-5C itself... X-O

At this rate I really hope I can find the pictorial guide back to do the battery hack. I know I found it somewhere before, but my bookmark is no more. Thank God Alhamdulillah there still exists the one and only video of Nokia 6300 battery hack, and here it is~~

Nokia 6300 battery upgrade to BL-5C
Too bad Youtube has disabled the audio. They claims that it contains an audio track that has not been authorized by WMG...

Eh? Actually you can fit the battery in if you *push* it a little harder? But.. but... okay, I'll might give it a try later. hurmmm.. The idea here is to replace the original 6300 battery with another battery that has more power. But Nokia didn't make such BL-4C-like battery yet. So we may ned to opt for other battery brand to solve this. But, does this..

..1600 mAh BL-4U battery authentic? 1600 mAh!!?

I found it as Nokia X-Level battery in Lelong.com.my. But the name on the packaging is X-Energy... (You can see it can be use for different type of Nokia phones: E66, E75, 5530 XM, 5730 XM, 6212 C, 6300i, 6600 S, 5800 Arte, 5800 Sapphire Arte, 8800 Carbon Arte, 8800 Gold Arte. 6300i is pretty similar to 6300, only 6300i have 30 Mb internal memory - which is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayy better when playing Nokia Java games...)

World's First Samsung Chromebook is... Google'd.

.: How can I say it? It's the truth and nothing but the truth. Eh?

Samsung Chromebook, is another version of personalized netbook built based on Google Chrome OS. Because a netbook usually cannot do nothing much or less powered compared to a normal laptop or a desktop, this Chromebook is an exception. It contains nothing!

Srsly? :-? (Yes, you're supposed to imagine the dramatic srsly eagle right now)

The thing is, a netbook is not made to used as a desktop pc or a laptop in the first place. The sole purpose of a netbook in this world is to surf the internet, only internet and nothing but the Net, not to perform other unnecessary tasks and filled with all softwares like a real desktop. This will results a super slow netbook, becomes easily overheat because of too much activity and pretty heavy just to fit everything inside it.

So, in order to avoid being in the same problematic netbook group, the clever guys in Google partnered with another group of clever guys from Samsung to build a netbook just for that one purpose, to surf the internet waves...

Samsung got Doodle'd.
Thus, the Samsung Chromebook is born~~

I can boast about Chromebook even if I don't know how to boast, but one thing I notice: "practically" there's nothing installed inside Chromebook for us to use. It was a plain simple black and white 1.66Ghz netbook installed with Chrome OS (read: Google Chrome browser). Why? Every so-called "apps" inside it is actually an oversized thumbnail linking to the "application" webpage.

You want your email? Chromebook got you a Gmail. You want your Skype? Chromebook got you Google Talk. You want your Office (Word, Excel)? Chromebook got you Google Docs. You want your Photoshop/GIMP? Chromebook got you a Picasa. You want your MTV? Chromebook got you Youtube. You want your (you name it here), Chromebook gives you (put an internet website that offered similar service like what you named before here). Blah blah blah. All this is an online services, that's why it was nothing inside Chromebook at all~~

Oh, I forgot. Why there is nothing inside? Because they store it in the cloud, lol~ :-P

Before further ramblings is written in this blog, let's see what Samsung Chromebook has to offer us..

Samsung Chromebook 5 series official spot - video teaser
This sleek notebook gives me an idea..

I want a similar notebook which runs with Ubuntu, because I'm not really like the "Googled" OS idea. This will make the netbook price more cheaper, and this is also about the news that all users activities collected from all around the globe is turned into a super massive statistical data sometimes freak me out. I am not a test subject, and I don't want to be one, even if you want to be the next real life Skynet. No no noo~ :-P

Enough about too much terminator, you can get further information and Chromebook reviews from:

Boot Windows 7 from USB~

.: It's a tragedy, but, never mind, we can do it~~

This is a story about our Natsys 1Malaysia netbook getting slow and slower each day using Windows 7 Starter. The first time the first day that netbook come, oh, my world now becomes borderless. I can surf the Net and learn the other side of Malaysia anytime and anywhere I want. Until, my 4 year old nephew ruin the laptop and shatters and crumbles my online world..

The problem is not that critical, he just.. I don't know how he do it, but every font and texts and icons inside that netbook become so enormously large. I thought I'm going hyperopia, but I'm not. I searched and googled and do some study from Youtube videos how to revert the font settings back to normal but none of it works. So, we sent it back to their original service center and ask them to repair the netbook.

To my dismay, after we get our netbook back, it is installed with a pirated Windows 7 Ultimate, not the Starter version. And one of my sister accidentally do the Windows update and then we get then 3 days warning because we are a victim of counterfeit software. Too bad I didn't format it before the warning expires and then we live with a blackened Windows screen to stare all the time, *hurmmmm..*

The one sold at PC Image was not in a box like this.
Our netbook does not include any OS DVD, only Windows 7 exe inside my D: partition, together with the netbook drivers. But that netbook doesn't have any optical disc drive, and how can I install my OS if I cannot boot it from my D: partition? To make it more complicated, the screen was black all the time, and I forgot how to explore Windows using the 'cmd' thing, and I don't have any friends with Windows 7 Starter DVD. *hurmmmm....*

(By the way, some says that there is no such thing as Windows 7 Starter DVD, but I remember I see many of them at PC Image Wisma Saberkas that other day. Around + RM150 I think..)

Fast forward, I borrow a Windows XP CD with an external optical drive from a friend to install it inside that netbook. And later re-install Windows 7 Starter again because I don't want to use Windows XP anymore. You may ask why I did it that way, I did it because that it's the only way I can think to access Windows 7 installer from the D: drive. Later I install win7 (override the XP) and alright, our original OS is back~

Second fast forward, it's getting much more slower than usual. It is understandable when Firefox 4.0.1 always not responding, but how come IE also become very slow when browsing the internet? The boot time also increased a little bit, and chkdsk is more common now. What happen to my Win7???

Maybe fresh installation should help?

So, equipped with 3 more USB, this is what I did:
  • first USB installed with Active@ Kill Disk. Erase everything so there is no more "rubbish" inside my harddisk.
  • second USB for storing stuffs. As a place to back up the original Win7 installer and netbook drivers and other documents.
  • third USB is installed with bootableWin7 Starter. I learned doing it using the Ubuntu USB installer.

After finished transferring my stuff, I erase the hard disk first, and later install Windows7 Starter again. Took me almost 4 hour to complete the OS and driver installation. I better add more RAM later, as 1 GB is not enough.

Now everything goes back to normal (but boot time seems a little slow?), and internet browsing is much faster. Both IE 8 and Fx 4 is working just fine. The only problem I had now is I got one unknown device inside the Device Manager. Before this I use the driver installer that is already inside the D: partition, but this time I use drivers downloaded from the Natsys website. I am very sure I installed everything, but how come there is unknown device there? Hurmmmm... :-?

I'm thinking of doing rollback and install my drivers from D:, but let search at Google first. I might found other solution there.

slow start up with windows 7 starter on 1005HA

My Windows 7 Starter boot screen is like his, but it didn't boot that long..

PhysicalDrive0: Win32:MBRoot removed by using TDSSKiller

.: MBR problem? Master Boot Record?

"A suspicious hidden object (rootkit) has been detected on your system. This may be a sign of a malware infection. It is recommended to remove the object immediately."
by Avast 6 antivirus.

If you ever had this kind of problem, I found two ways to solve it from the net. But I can only confirm that TDSSKiller works for me, because I not tested the other solution yet (the aswMBR software).

This is how I encounter MBR the first time with Avast 6.
I choose to delete it, and later Avast asks for a boot-time scan. I thought this would sure clean everything, but later after the scan finished, another version of Win32 MBR notification appears...

This time Avast detect MBR using their heuristic method.

Troubled by such annoying detection, I lurk around the web reading others experience removing this rootkit. I tried MBAM, but it didn't detect MBR. I read about Sophos anti-rootkit, Panda anti-rootkit, but I tried TDSSKiller because I've used one of Kaspersky Virus removal tools before. And this is some TDSSKiller screenshots before my MBR problem is finally gone.

Cure this Backdoor Sinowal.knf first.

And then reboot~

Alrighttt~~ No more MBR detected by Avast, alrightttttt~~ (I hope this should not bother me anymore, hurmmm..). Should I made document backup after this? I thought I need to erase my harddisk to eliminate the rootkit trace.. Or maybe not, or may be I need to.

Unboxing is Art: Why Unboxing is Not Boring~

.: Why? Why they hate unboxing videos so much??

Did they realize that people want to watch unboxing videos so badly because:
  • when they're buying some stuff, they can expect that some items should be inside, not missing or stolen. I watch unboxing videos so I know that my stuff comes in complete set~
  • the feeling of watching people dares to tear that factory-made plastic in front of their very eyes is sooo... intriguing?!! Oh how much I love watching my stuff all in new condition, no scratch no tear, no dented/rusted sides, the brand new smell... oh, I'm lovin it~
  • they had no money to buy it in the first place so watching unboxing videos can help motivates them to buy it later? It applies to me sometimes... :-P

What happens when cats
do the unboxing
?
Here, I present you randomly selected unboxing videos which covers so many art of unboxing techniques:
  • step by step on how to tear open rip it apart,
  • how to multitask like unbox while reviewing it,
  • should it be in silence or filled with loud unknown audio,
  • can it be done on the soft mattress or on a clean table or on the floor or on air,
  • is it done with professional filming and lighting techniques or the beginner's-can-do-it too,
  • which package you may unbox or which is not,

plus other videos that you'll see how unboxing is an art, because nobody can do unboxing like they do, Lol~ ;-) Without further ado and blabbers, here is our videos~~

iPad 2 dog days are over. And Steve Jobs still kickin' : We love you Steve~~

.: From Yahoo! daily snippets: How the iPad 2 stacks up against the competition? brings me to Engadget: Live from Apple's iPad 2 event, where I can see Steve Jobs giving speech again, yayyyy!!~~ :-D

Steve is sick, he's liver is failing. You can see he is more skinny right now. It was a surprise to see him appear at this iPad 2 launch. He just don't want to miss this magical blockbuster launch. Steve Jobs, you're the man, man!

What is the relation between iPad 2 launch with Florence and the Beatles? Dog days Wiki is here, but you have to read it more at Engadget iPad 2 event and look for "Florence" there, heehee ;-)

Florence + The Machine - Dog Days Are Over (2010 Version)

Dog days are over Lyric by Florence and the Machine, many thanks to SongMeanings :

Happiness hit her like a train on a track
Coming towards her stuck still no turning back
She hid around corners and she hid under beds
She killed it with kisses and from it she fled
With every bubble she sank with her drink
And washed it away down the kitchen sink

The dog days are over
The dog days are done
The horses are coming
So you better run

Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father
Run for your children, for your sisters and brothers
Leave all your love and your longing behind
You can't carry it with you if you want to survive

The dog days are over
The dog days are done
Can you hear the horses?
Because here they come

And I never wanted anything from you
Except everything you had and what was left after that too, oh
Happiness hit her like a bullet in the head
Struck from a great height by someone who should know better than that

The dog days are over
The dog days are done
Can you hear the horses?
Because here they come

Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father
Run for your children, for your sisters and brothers
Leave all your loving, your loving behind
You can't carry it with you if you want to survive

The dog days are over
The dog days are done
Can you hear the horses?
Because here they come

The dog days are over
The dog days are done
The horses are coming
So you better run~

I hope that Steve will get well pretty soon. And to tease everyone, this is the iPad 2 first hands-on video~~ (Whoaaaa, I want one!!)

Legacy " wowexec.exe" and "ntvdm.exe" from TopCat.exe?

16-bit screen-mate?
.: Desktop mate or screen-mates is one quick method to enliven up our computer screen, but those tiny widgets can bring harm to our computer too...

Such case happens to me today. After trying one screen-mate - TopCat.exe from Cool on-Screen Fun, two UFI appears..

UFI : " wowexec.exe" and "ntvdm.exe".
UFI? 2 Unindentified Foreign Image-Name appears in my task manager after I close down TopCat.exe. Strange, hurmmmm... I tried to end both of them and it was a success. Lucky it was not some heavy trojans or other computer virus. Just to be sure I double check on the Net to see if somebody has encounter such process before.

Forum analysis:
  • WOWExec as in " wowexec.exe" means Windows16-bit on WindowsNT emulator? And "ntvdm.exe" means NT Virtual DOS Machine.
  • Usually " wowexec.exe" uses nothing, but "ntvdm.exe" use such a tiny fraction of your memory.(refer to picture)
  • These 2 process/utilities will starts automatically when we use or play any 16-bit (legacy) games or DOS programs, which in my case is this TopCat.exe.
  • Both will remain in memory even after we close the 16-bit program, so we need to end it manually.
  • If we still let them running, it takes up a whole lot of resources, blocks IE and Fx, and other programs from running.
  • "wowexec.exe" and " wowexec.exe" can be considered as safe process, but "_wowexec.exe" is still a mystery..

Okay, that should clear my questions for now. It's been 2 months already after I cleaned someone's computer from malwares. Oh I hate malwares, they're pretty clever in hiding and disguising themselves...
