.: Kehidupan sebagai seorang pelajar semasa "dunia dah moden, zaman dah maju" ni memang banyak cabarannya. Tidak kira berapa umur anda, dalam banyak banyak cabaran, antara cabaran paling menduga sekali ialah penggunaan komputer dan software perisiannya.

Nak kata menduga sangat tidakla. Tapi bagi seorang umat Islam, seboleh-bolehnya segala yang kita pakai guna, makan minum, datang dari sumber halal, atau diperoleh dengan cara halal, bukan merampas hak orang lain. Begitu juga dengan menggunakan perisian software, jika berkemampuan, belilah yang original yang asli. Jika tidak, apa kata kita cuba pakai yang percuma free? ;-)

Ikut pengalaman mamdoh sendiri, perkara paling basic asas keperluan seorang pelajar dalam komputernya ialah: Operating system OS, software taip menaip, antivirus. Kalau yang selain dari itu, software yang diinstall memang software yang kategori "kehendak", bukan keperluan. Saja je install sebab suka pakai atau suka main. Mamdoh suka main game, kalau DotA dijual dgn sangat sangat murah, bawah RM50, memang beli tunai cash. Disebabkan software DotA terlalu mahal la jadi main pinjam komputer kawan, oops...

Software Alternatif yang Percuma #1: Operating System Ubuntu.

Kalau takde OS, memang komputer tak berjalan, kosong blank hitam aje. Nak tak nak, mesti pasang install OS. Disebabkan Windows 7 Pro agak mahal (~RM450++), jadi kita beralih angin ke OS percuma. Kalau di-Google-kan "free OS", ada banyak OS free yang kita tak pernah dengar tapi fungsi dan rupa lebih kurang hampir sama dengan Windows 7, haa..

Dalam banyak-banyak OS percuma, mamdoh rekemenkan Ubuntu. Sebab dia percuma (itu kriteria penting - bila OS halal, jadi semua barang atau assignment atau apa apa aja yang dibuat dengan komputer itu pun halal. Tapi kalau install jugak software pirate, halal jadi bye bye woo..), rupa ala-ala Mac siket, dan boleh support software Windows dengan Wine nya, haa..

Tapi kalau nak pakai Windows 7 juga,beli yang Windows 7 Starter pun ok, RM150 sahaja. Walaupun beberapa fungsi best takde, tapi lebih baik dari pakai Windows pirate, haa.. ;-) Di Lowyat.net ada pricelist senarai pdf harga software dari SoftwareExchange~~

Software Alternatif yang Percuma #2: Software taip menaip OpenOffice.Org OOo.

OpenOffice.org ni software yang ala-ala Microsoft Office 2003 tapi edisi percuma. Kita sebagai pelajar kurang mampu nak melaburkan duit pinjaman PTPTN untuk beli software Office original, jadi nasib baiklah ada programmer omputeh di luar sana yang mengembleng tenaga dan idea menghasilkan Office yang percuma. Maka lahirlah OpenOffice.org, yang mengandungi hampir semua software seperti Microsoft Office:

• OpenOffice.org Writer = Microsoft Word,
• OpenOffice.org Impress = Microsoft PowerPoint, 
• OpenOffice.org Calc = Microsoft Excel, 
• dan juga lain-lain perisian~~

Software Alternatif yang Percuma #3: Antivirus Avast Percuma~

Ini penting ini, kalau takde antivirus komputer kita ibarat tak berbaju tak berseluar dan memang pasti "demam-demam dan sakit-sakit". Hidup seorang pelajar memang tak jauh dari men-transfer memindahkan barang dari USB ke komputer, dari komputer ke USB, maka antivirus memang komponen wajib untuk menjaga komputer dari diserang dirosakkan virus-virus.

Yang paling hangin bila hasil kerja assignment kita hilang semua atau rosak semua atau belum disimpan ke USB tapi komputer dah rosak / tak boleh on dihidupkan / screen hitam legam biru / dan lain-lain masalah. Sebab itulah antivirus nak tak nak mesti wajib diinstall dipasang dalam komputer.

Mamdoh sendiri lebih meminati Avast, walaupun dia kadang-kadang buat hal, tapi kuasa protection perlindungan Avast boleh tahan kuat. Untuk software percuma kita boleh pakai Avast Home, tapi jika ada fulus lebih bolehla upgrade yang mahal lagi :-)

Avast! 6 Free Antivirus Review

Versi baru ada sedikit ringan, tapi kalau anda pun pakai Avast 6, sila disablekan AutoSandbox kerana ia melambatkan komputer selambat-lambatnya. (Kalau RAM besar, jangan disable AutoSandbox, kalau RAM kecik "bolehla" terpaksa rela disable...) 

Satu lagi keburukan Avast 6 ialah dia hanya ringan kalau dia running macam biasa dan kita tak buka tak pakai mana-mana program. Tapi bila dan running guna software lain, mulalah Avast sibuk sibuk men-scan-kan segala apa yang kita run. Tu yang kadang-kadang tengah tengok movie, main game Facebook dia jadik slow, Avast sebok-sebok scan, aiya.. Di samping itu, Avast 6 akan automatik membuang autorun.inf dan mana-mana malware yang automatik run bila kita cucuk USB. Masa komputer tengah install driver USB tu la Avast sibuk-sibuk scan USB juga. Itu yang dia pi automatik buang tu, haa..

Walaupun dia sedikit hampeh, Avast 6 Home tatap menjadi pujhaaannnn~ :-D

Pilihan lain untuk antivirus yang kuat dan agak ringan dan tak banyak songeh?
Software antivirus payung merah - Avira Antivirus Personal~~ Pernah guna AVG Free - dia berat terlampau kalau tak di-update, BitDefender - delete tapi tak berapa delete, Panda Free semacam aneh, Symantec Norton memang no no no, PC-cilin ntah apa jadi dengan dia, jadi pakailah mana yang anda minat.

Disebabkan nak pakai yang halal dan berkualiti, kita guna antivirus yang Home / Personal / Free version. Satu lagi masa nak register taknak yang isi borang dengan segala macam maklumat, dan dia mesti ada definition update automatik tanpa kita tercari-cari mana button update dia, dan yang paling penting, antivirus percuma itu mesti maintain power kuat membunuh membuang virus-virus etc walaupun dia tak connected bersambung dengan internet. Sekurang-kurangnya dia ada prevention technology buang barang yang "disemak test ada risiko membahayakan" komputer, sekurang-kurangnya lah.

Jadi, itulah 3 software alternatif yang percuma yang boleh digunakan oleh para pelajar. Diharap perkongsian ini dapat menghilangkan rasa was was berkat ka tidak sijil Diploma / Degree / master / PhD / apa-apa sijil kita kerana buat assignment guna software pirate.

BumpTop & WinFlip: Desktop Display Will Never Be the Same Again~

Talking about being different: Is your desktop looks pretty similar like an average Joe computer? :-? Would you to like change your old plain boring desktop display to the next level? Stay with me please~~  X-D

This week my focus is more on computer and tech, so I'm going slow with my other blog. huhu... :-(

One of my friends requests me to format his computer with the new Windows 7, but after checking his hardware compatibility, sorry bro, you can only satisfy your computer up to Win 7 Pro, bye bye to Win 7 Ultimate~ X-O

The only feature he like from Windows 7 is the Aero Flip 3D. But how to get that for a computer with Windows XP Professional? Hurmmm..

Nice rite? I want, I want!!~

Where can I get similar software to emulate Flip 3D in Windows XP? After some googling for "flip 3D in Windows XP", this one helpful blog is giving me what I want. WinFlip 0.50, I Love youuuuuuuuuuuuuu~~

You can flip it with Win + Tab or by using circular mouse gesture~~   ;-)

(Oh, don't forget to change the alphabets too~) I did found TopDesk and ShockAero3D, but I still prefer WinFlip 0.50. WinFlip does not need any installation. Download it from the Official WinFlip mirror here, (version 0.50) and extract it in your Program files. Click on the WinFlip icon to start the software, and adjust your options. It would be advisable not to out do the software if your computer is low on RAM, but the default setting is good already. Click 'Run automatically' so that WinFlip runs every time you start your computer.

Another software that would distinctively differentiate you and your fellow computer friends is this desktop display software: BumpTop. This 3D deskop display is too great I'm speechless to write it as a blog post. Here is one video to show you it's awesomeness~~

Depends with your taste, if you choose to change your desktop display like this, be prepared with extra unused RAM in your CPU. Seriously, this kind of software eats a lot of your system resources. Don't say that I didn't warned you.. X-O

Adobe Flash Player Plugin and Active X? Which One I need to Install?

This puzzling question makes me puzzled - which type of Flash player I need to install? It's plugin or it's Active X? :-?

What is a Flash Player? 

According to Adobe: "A Flash player is a cross-platform browser-based application runtime that delivers uncompromised viewing of expressive applications, content, and videos across screens and browsers. Flash Player 10.1 is optimized for high performance on mobile screens and designed to take advantage of native device capabilities, enabling richer and more immersive user experiences."

Whoaaa.. nice~~ In other words, (my words), Flash player is an enhancer - it is capable of working together with other application in order to maximize the full potential from the any device. If you use it in a browser, it enhance the browsing experience. If you use flash in a mobile phone apps, you can use that apps much much better. ;-)

But wait, What is a plugin?
According to Iolo, A plugin is a small program that is added onto another program, enabling it to perform additional functions. For example, a browser help object is a commonly seen type of plug-in.

And, What is an Active X?
An interesting definition from IdiotsGuidetoTechnology - Essentially, Active X is a program created by Microsoft to facilitate rich media playback. It is used by the Internet Explorer program to load other software applications in the browser.

From here we can make a clever guess that a Flash player plugin is a small program that enhances a device, or an apps, and a Flash player Active X is a program that enhances Internet Explorer, the Microsoft's browser.

Which means that if you prefer browsing the Internet using your Internet Explorer, you need to install Flash player Active X in your computer. But if you prefer to use Mozilla Firefox browser, install Flash player plugin instead. And you can install Flash player for both program, just by installing the Active X version. Sometimes your computer might be somewhat different, so install both Flash player plugin and Flash player Active X (in case of emergency).

This installation is way too easy. Open your preferred browser, go to the download page http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ here, and you might need to choose whether you want to install McAfee software or not, and then you can download your Flash player.

The outcome should be like this scenario, if you're using IE (Internet Explorer), when you click the download button, you get to install Flash player Active X into your computer. If you use Firefox to open the download page, so you'll automatically install the Flash player plugin. This installation is already automated by Adobe website~ :-)

Hope this explanation can help you understand or helps you choose which type of Flash player you need to install into your PC. In case you cannot download from that page, go to Adobe Flash player main page and download it from there. :-)

Driver Software: Where Can I Download it?

Long story short, this is a driver download story~~
:-)

When will you need a driver software?

• You just formatted your harddisk to install your operating system
• You just recently rollback-ing your driver
• Your driver CD/DVD is not working
• You want to revert to old driver (new driver is faulty?)
• You need to upgrade to the latest driver version

So Where to check that I've already installed every driver software in my OS?

• Go to My Computer > right click > Properties.
• In System Properties, select the Hardware tab.
• Click Device Manager.
• If you can see a yellow question mark sign there, it means your driver for that device is not installed

Ok, I get it. Now Where can I download my driver?
First of all, there is two way of finding your driver software. Either by using your motherboard name, or your device name. After you get any of this info, then you can download your driver software.

How to search for my motherboard or driver device name?
Well, it is hard to find it from the Device Manager, how about you do some diagnosis then?

• Windows button + R (or just click Run from the Start menu)
• type 'dxdiag' inside (minus the apostrophe)
• Click Yes and wait~~

Right from the first tab you can see your System Manufacturer and your System Model. That is your motherboard name. Click on Display tab, and the device name and info is at your left side. For audio device, click on Audio tab. If this step is too hard for you, install a software dedicated for finding out your device driver info such as:

And, using your motherboard name/model or your device name/model, try Google it for the software. ;-) Type or copy and paste the exact name and search your driver there~~ :-)

• With motherboard model, you should getting the full list of drivers you needed
• With device model/name, you should get the exact software for your driver

You should get this in mind, searching using the device name will get you the software but it may not suitable for your OS. But searching for drivers for your motherboard will "always" get you the correct driver. :-)

The second method to download your driver is by going directly to your motherboard/device manufacturer/company website. Choose your model and your operating system.

The last method is searching from driver provider site. Or the driver hosting site. Which is I list already for you below~~

Anime & Movie Codecs: Mesti install kalau nak tengok.

.

Taknak cakap banyak. Mana nak download codecs untuk tengok movie atau anime? Tapi macam pendek sangat je post kali nih, jadi tulis jelah apa-apa yang patut.

Movie atau anime nih kita ada macam-macam format, file format la kata orang. Sapa yang mula-mula kata macam tu pun tak tau, tapi rasanya memang dipanggil file format. Bila dah dipanggil dengan file format, nama file extension dia pun lebih kurang sama jugak. Biasanya file format nih panjang nama dia, file extension pendek pendek je, dalam 3 ke 4 huruf sahaja.

• File format = nama penuh, file extension = nama manja/ nama timangan~~ (adaka??)

Contohnya.. [judul anime.mpeg] atau [tajuk movie.avi] atau blablabla. Kalau tak ubah setting pada folder option, jadi memang tak nampakla file extension. Takpun tengok dari properties pun boleh tau apa file format dia. Pening dah apa itu file extension dan file format? OTW lah ni penerangan dia... maaf..

Biasanya kalau movie, file format yang popular ialah 'Moving Picture Experts Group', tak pun 'Audio Video Interleave'. Kadang 'Matroska Video' atau ada yang file formatnya 'RealMedia Variable Bitrate', 'FLash Video', macam-macam file format yang ada untuk movie ataupun anime.

Kenapa file format ada banyak jenis? Untuk kecilkan saiz download video, untuk cantikkan kualiti video yang kita tengok, dan ada juga sebabnya karena nak branding, menjenamakan sesuatu format video agar semua kita terpaksa rela menggunakan software dia satu-satunya untuk tengok video tu. Rambut sama hitam (atau blonde atau brunette atau beruban atau dyed), hati ada darah warna merah.

Dan file extension pulak biasanya dekat dekat nak sama nama. Macam 'Moving Picture Experts Group', extension dia '.mpeg' atau '.mpg'. Yang 'Audio Video Interleave' pulak, '.avi'. 'Matroska Video' = '.mkv', yang 'RealMedia Variable Bitrate' = '.rmvb' atau '.rm', dan yang video download dari Youtube 'FLash Video' = '.flv'. Alkisah begitulah kaitan file format dengan file extension. Kenapa file extension pendek-pendek je? Because of 'simplicity', memudahkan bagi OS dan software-software menjalankan tugas. Haa.. ;-)

Kenapa kena download codec?
Sebab player dalam OS tak cukup barang untuk mainkan file format tertentu.

Kenapa pulak?
OS macam Windows, dia cuma sediakan player untuk mainkan file format yang Microsoft punya. Yang company lain atau orang lain punya dia tak ada. Contoh file format Windows punya, 'Windows Media Video (.wmv)'. Jadi, kalau nak mainkan movie dengan format lain, kenalah download codec dia dulu.

Apakah Codec itoo?
Codec, also known as aka 'COmpressor-DECompressor' atau kadang-kadang 'COder-DECoder'. OOigi quote sikit Wikipedia untuk penjelasan,

A codec encodes a data stream or signal for transmission, storage or encryption, or decodes it for playback or editing. Codecs are used in videoconferencing and streaming media applications. The term codec is also used as a generic name for a video conferencing unit.

• translation sebarangan: Codec memenyekkan data atau signal agar dapat dihantar kepada penerima lain, untuk simpanan atau encryption, dan Codec juga mengembalikan balik keadaan asal data atau signal tadi supaya dapat dimain atau diguna, diubah semula.
• Codec juga digunakan semasa persidangan video dan ketika menonton mana-mana media secara atas talian.
• istilah Codec turut bermaksud nama panggilan yang merujuk kepada video conferencing unit.

SafetyWebSpace.com: Jangan/Tak Payah Beli Personal Antivirus!

Pernah tak tengah-tengah surf internet tiba-tiba browser jadik gelap, ada background merah macam nih?

Tak pun baru buka browser, lepas taip www.facebook.com atau taip search di www.google.com, browser di-redirect pergi ke gambar di atas? Haa.. maksudnya dah terkena jangkitan la tu~~ X-O

Lepas start je browser, masa dah tekan enter ke laman web yang kita nak, dia akan keluarkan warning macam di atas. Kalau kita ketik mana-mana link kat situ, kita akan dibawa ke laman sesawang www.SafetyWebSpace.com. Di sana, laman web ini cakap, PC kita dalam bahaya kerana dah dijangkiti worm atau trojan gila. Nak selamatkan PC kita cuma ada satu cara, beli dan download Personal Antivirus diorang.

Masalahnya, tak kisah kita beli Personal Antivirus tu atau tidak, kita belum pernah pergi ke safetywebspace.com atau dah pergi, lepas terkena hijack dari website nih, mana-mana laman web pun kita tak dapat nak pergi. Mula-mula dia block 2, 3 kali je. Dapatla jugak main internet kejap. Lepas tu jaga la, hampir semua site dia block, dia cakap “Warning! Visiting this site may harm your computer!” tanpa jemu. Sungguh menghanginkan badan. Laman web yang verified atau guna https pun dapat jugak dia block. Sah, PC kita dah ada bendasing yang kacau internet kita.

Lepas cari-cari dekat internet, kebanyakan website yang ada solution untuk buang hijacker tu semua mencadangkan agar kita download software diorang untuk buang. Dah pernah cuba, tapi macam hampeh jugak software diorang. Ada yang kena register by email, ada yang kena dibeli lesennya.

Cuma satunya, lepas scan dan remove semua threats yang ada, jangan lupa periksa dan buang semua file-file dan folder-folder dia. Anda selalu mendownload software??

Kalau logiknya, banyak cara nak download muatturun perisian software. Kalau cakap pasal keselamatan, nak download sesuatu software tu baik download dari laman web si pembuatnya. Contohnya kalau cari Avast, layari [www.Avast.com], kalau cari k-lite codec untuk avi divx rmvb anime, layari [www.codecguide.com], dan sebagainyalah. Kalau lupa nama company yang buat software tu, try Google-kan guna nama software. Mungkin akan jumpa laman web diaorang.

Antara maksud keselamatan mendownload software-software nih ialah kita taknak ter-install software yang 'diam-diam ubi berisi'. Silap haribulan, software yang di-install memandai-mandai dipasang nya spyware, malware, ntah apa-apa ntah dalam komputer kita, bengong jugak kalau maklumat peribadi bocor di internet. Lama juga nak menyiapkan blog post nih. Nak mencari laman sesawangnya dan edit link. (maaf ya kalau link terlalu pajang - haha) :p Jadi, senarai diatas adalah perisian yang dicadangkan Ooigi.blog untuk Anda install kan kedalam komputer. Tapi, dalam banyak-banyak perisian yang ditulis di atas, Anda disarankan untuk memuaturun perisian di bawah kategori 'download manager' terlebih dahulu kerana sesetengah perisian mempunyai saiz yang agak dan besar dan ini pastinya mengambil masa yang panjang.

Pada saranan diatas, terdapat beberapa software yang hampir mempunyai fungsi yang sama. Contohnya pada bahagian 'media player'. Jika software yang digemari Anda adalah KMPlayer, jadi software seperti VLC Player tak perlulah di-install. Cuma untuk Windows Media Player tu, kalau suka yang version baru, bolehla dimuaturun. Kalau diikutkan, WMP 10 pun sudah memadai. Perlunya WMP di-install kerana sesetengah laman sesawang menggunakan plugins dari WMP untuk memaparkan video mereka. Jika Anda hanya melawati laman Youtube.com, mereka menggunakan plugins dari Macromedia (iaitu flash player) untuk memaparkan video-video Youtube secara 'streaming', jadi plugins WMP tidak digunakan. Cerita sebenar yang hendak ditekankan di sini ialah, Anda tidak perlu memuaturun kesemua software di atas. Muaturun apa yang perlu kerana ini boleh menjimatkan ruang cakera keras (harddisk) Anda. Anda mampu mengubahnya~~ :p

Biasanya, lepas format komputer kita akan install balik kelengkapan dengan semua keperluan dia kan? (ntah hapa2 tulisan nih) Kalau yang terer tu jamin macam makan kacang goreng manis pedas-pedas je dia cakap. Kalau kena pulak kat yang tak tahu atau baru , macam mana? Parah ni, parahh..

Driver ? 

Biasanya, lepas format dengan atur dia punya Windows settings (network, password dll), kita akan install 'driver' komputer dulu. Macam nama dia jugak, 'driver' ni senang cerita, dia boleh diibaratkan sebagai penunjuk jalan. Penunjuk jalan untuk siapa? Untuk semua software dan hardware dalam komputer tu. Dia akan bertindak sebagai polis traffik yang menjaga lalulintas, dari mana menuju ke mana. Cukup setakat itu cerita dongengnya.. :p

Nak install 'driver' bolehlah merujuk pada model motherboard komputer atau siri laptop (contohnya Acer 4520 dll)  yang dimiliki. Biasanya CD driver ini didatangkan sekali dengan komputer atau laptop. Dan memang pihak pengeluar akan melabelkan CD tersebut dengan nama 'drivers' atau 'drivers and utilities', atau dengan nama lain - yang penting Anda gunakan CD yang betul barulah driver tadi dapat di-install.

 Chipset

Mulakan dengan driver yang mempunyai nama 'chipset' - diikuti dengan lain-lain driver. 'Chipset' Ooigi boleh beri bayangan yang ianya adalah bahagian kepala, dan driver lain seperti 'sound driver', 'graphic driver', 'Lan/ network driver' dan lain-lainnya adalah bahagian yang seterusnya pula. Jadi, mulakan dengan kepala, lepas itu bolehlah di-install driver lain. 'Chipset' dulu, lepas itu baru driver yang lain, makacihh~~ :p (no further questions, okay?)
