Yeah, you probably heard this QR code already. Ooigi too, have seen it but never try to find out what is this rectangular "maze-code" (derived from bar-code) is all about. Like usual, Wiki is a great place for our QR info-digging and sometimes we can almost see Wiki in the top 10 SERPs for Google.com. Eh? Wrong blog for IM? :-P
"Borrowed" from Wiki:
QR in full means Quick Response. Usually seen with a visible black dot rectangle, QR code is a black&white maze-looking barcode able to show information in 2-dimensional way. The above example is a QR code for http://Ooigi.blogspot.com, and you can see the visible black dot rectangle mentioned before. ;-)
Information encoded is read vertically and horizontally, hence it's called the 2D code. This way of data encoding enables more data representation, up to several hundred times more compared to data read from ordinary bar codes. Different data type can be made into a QR code, such as:
- Normal text, just any text.
- Your website URL.
- RSS feeds.
- Telephone number.
- Text message, or SMS.
- E-mail address.
- E-mail address together with e-mail message.
- Your contact details: vCard or meCard.
- Events (vCalendar).
- Google Maps.
- WiFi network.
- Paypal "Buy now" link.
- Last but not least, our own social media profile - Twitter tweets, Facebook profile/page, MySpace, LinkedIn or our FourSquare venue~ :-D
- (You can say that you can fit almost any information as a QR code~)
